These vessels represent an extraordinary array of design, purpose, and materials beginning in the early 19th century to the present. What ties these boats together thematically, and is the inspiration for the exhibition Story Boats, is the remarkable richness of human interest stories behind them, which include themes of hope, exploration, survival, joy, adventure, sport, immigration, and many others. The podcast "Conversations with Classic Boats" by Tom Darling features some of these remarkable stories in its May 2022 podcast episodes. 03/25/2021 | New Boating Safety Law: Engine Kill Switch Use Required in Many Situations View this item » On April 1, 2021 a new federal law goes into effect that requires operators of recreational vessels less than 26 feet in length with an installed Engine Cut-Off Switch (ECOS) to use the ECOS link in certain circumstances. The cut-off switch or “Kill Switch” is typically a coiled bungee cord lanyard clipped onto the operator's and the other end attached to the cut-off switch. Electronic wireless devices are also compliant. According to this new requirement, the engine cut-off links must be used when the primary helm is not within an enclosed cabin, and when the boat is operating on plane or above displacement speed. Some situations where the engine cut-off link will not be required include docking, trailering, trolling and operating in no-wake zones. The law applies on all "Navigable Waters of the US".

04/30/2018 | Drone Insurance Solutions by Gowrie Group View this item »Drone uptake is growing at a steep trajectory, and sailors, sailing organizations, and the sailing industry are taking notice. Before joining in the fun, Gowrie Group recommends that all drone operators and drone owners take time to understand the related FAA regulations, industry requirements, insurance needs, and safety best practices. Significant insurance coverage gaps can arise because there is often an aviation exclusion in standard Commercial General Liability policies for owned drones. Flying a drone without coverage can expose you, your assets, and your organization to significant lawsuits and claims for bodily injury or property damage. To meet this coverage gap, Gowrie Group is pleased to offer our clients two options for purchasing Drone Insurance: an episodic hourly policy by Verifly and an annual policy through Global Aerospace. Both solutions can be purchased online.

03/05/2018 | Safe Powerboating Skills for Sailing Coaches – Sailing World Article View this item »Sailing World magazine article "So, the Kid Wants to Teach Sailing," by Kimball Livingston, addresses the current challenge of finding qualified sailing instructors with strong powerboat handling skills. The demand is high and the supply is low.
