A club's directors and officers are accountable for administering the club safely and within the club charter. What happens when a prospective member sues the club officers for discriminatory admission practices? A director's and officers liability policy ensures that the officers are protected from liabilities assumed in the course of managing the club. The Burgee Program works with top rated carriers to provide broad protection for your club's directors and officers.

What D&O is not:
Many people are under the impression that Directors & Officers is a policy they need to purchase to protect the Board of Directors from liability for bodily injury and property damage at events. In fact, bodily injury and property damage claims are specifically EXCLUDED from Directors & Officers Liability policies! General Liability and Protection & Indemnity coverages address these types of claims. D & O does not.

Within the Burgee Program and the other US SAILING endorsed products through Gowrie, Barden & Brett, all directors, officers, members and volunteers are covered for bodily injury and property damage claims arising out of club activities. Separate D&O coverage is also available.
