US SAILING Programs

If your organization hosts regattas and borrows boats, you can now provide primary hull and liability insurance for those boats while they are in your care. This means that the owner of the boat will not have to rely on his or her own insurance if there is a claim during the event.

You must purchase Regatta Liability Insurance in order to be eligible for this coverage.

The cost for US SAILING organizational members is only 0.3% of the total value of the borrowed boats. A minimum premium of $250.00 per event applies to this coverage.

Example: You borrow six Sonars valued at $15,000 each and a race committee boat valued at $30,000. The total hull value is $120,000. The premium for this event would be $360.00, which includes $1,000,000 of Protection & Indemnity (watercraft liability).

It is very easy to apply for this coverage. Simply download and complete the application, calculate the premium and return the application with your premium payment.

Q: What if our organization already has the Burgee Program?
A: If you already have insurance through the Burgee Program and the Chubb Insurance Group, you don't need to do anything!!

You'll be pleased to know that the program automatically includes bodily injury & property damage coverage for:

REGATTA LIABILITY - $1,000,000 Limit
BORROWED BOAT - $1,000,000 Liability, plus Hull Physical damage coverage up to 85' LOA.
GENERAL LIABILITY - $1,000,000 Liability on land, including liquor liability.

BEFORE THE BEGINNING OF THE EVENT.

Your application must be received before you take possession of the vessels.

If you need immediate coverage, please call Gowrie, Barden & Brett and ask for a US SAILING Team member at 1-800-262-8911 before 5 p.m. EST.

Q: When is coverage effective?
A: For the duration of the event and all days that you have possession of the vessels for this event only.

Q: What is the cost?
A: .3% of the total hull value.

Q: Who is insured?
A: The sponsoring organization for the event, the boat owner, and the skipper.

Q: What coverage is included?
A: Physical damage to the hull, sails and rigging.
Liability in the amount of $1,000,000 for bodily injury and property damage.

Q: Who can purchase this insurance?
A: Borrowed boat insurance can be purchased ONLY by the sponsoring organization. The application should be completed by the event chairperson or the committee. Regatta Liability MUST be purchased in order to access this coverage.

Q: What if we sponsor more than one event?
A: Individual borrowed boat coverage must be purchased for each event separately. It may be more cost effective to purchase the complete Burgee Program.
