What are the differences between Home Owners Insurance and the One Design Policy?
ONE DESIGN INSURANCE ™
Q: Is this an agreed value policy?
A: Yes. We will pay the hull covered claims without deduction for depreciation for age.
Q: Does my current homeowners policy cover my boat in the event of a boat accident?
A: All homeowners policies are different. Many provide only $1,000 in hull insurance on boats. Check with your homeowners agent to be sure.
Q: Am I able to charter another boat of the same class or can I charter my boat to a friend?
A: Charter coverage is available but it has to be added to the policy and there is a charge for the coverage. There are two different endorsements that allow for charter coverage. One type allows you to charter a non-owned boat of the same class and the other allows you to charter the insured boat to another person.

Q: Is my boat covered while being trailered?
A: Yes. Damage to your boat or trailer would be covered for damage during overland transportation. Liability damage would follow your auto insurance policy.
Q: Can more than one owner be listed on the policy?
A: An owner is someone with a financial interest in the boat. If there is more than one owner, we need to have each owner's name and address listed on the policy. If there is ever a claim, the payment would be payable to all the insured parties.
Q: Can I insure more than one boat on one policy?
A: No. You can only insure one boat per policy. But it is easy to purchase more than one policy.

Q: Can I get a quote for insurance on another boat or boats that I own?
A: Yes GBB manages more than 6,000 boat insurance policies. For a quote: link to boatinsure.com
Q: Are all classes approved for the One-Design Insurance Program?
A: No. The parameters for selection are:
- No boats with auxiliary power (inboard or outboard)
- Centerboard of keel boats 30' and under
- Well established class with at least 150 active dues paying members.
- Class Association must be US SAILING member
- Class must have a current builder.
If your One-Design class fits those parameters, but is not listed in our quote request form, please submit a request to add your class to the One-Design Insurance Program to Sarah Davidson at one-design@gowrie.com.

Q: Who underwrites the One-Design Insurance Program?
A: New Hampshire Insurance Company
- A Division of American International Group (AIG)
- Highest possible rating (A++), by A.M. Best
- Claims offices in over 130 countries
- Marine Underwriters for over 30 years
- Proven experience & unsurpassable financial strength.
Q: What is P&I?
A: The Protection & Indemnity limit is the maximum limit of liability.
This is the most the insurance company will pay, regardless of the number of
injured persons, claims made, or watercraft involved in any one accident, or
series of accidents arising out of the same events. Where simple Liability
coverage only pays for what one is legally obligated to pay, P&I
provides defense and other coverages in the event of a loss and/or legal suit.
Q: Why is the US Resident question asked?
A: If you are a non US Resident, the insurance company will only
permit Domestic navigation. Domestic navigation includes the
Continental United States, Canada and Mexico. Navigation outside this
territory is excluded from the policy. Any claim arising outside the Domestic
navigation will not be covered.
